File Explorer Shortcuts

File Explorer is the built-in file management tool in Windows, used for browsing, organizing, and managing files and folders. These shortcuts help speed up navigation and file operations.


List of File Explorer Shortcuts & Their Functions

Shortcut Function
Ctrl + Shift + N Creates a new folder in the current directory.
Alt + Up Arrow Moves up one level in the directory structure (like going back to the parent folder).
Alt + Left Arrow Goes back to the previous folder. Similar to the back button in a web browser.
Alt + Right Arrow Moves forward if you have gone back in File Explorer.
F2 Renames the selected file or folder.
Ctrl + A Selects all files and folders in the current window.
Ctrl + C Copies the selected file or folder to the clipboard.
Ctrl + X Cuts (moves) the selected file or folder to the clipboard.
Ctrl + V Pastes the copied or cut file or folder.
Delete Moves the selected file or folder to the Recycle Bin.
Shift + Delete Permanently deletes the selected file or folder (bypasses the Recycle Bin).
Ctrl + F / Ctrl + E Activates the search bar to find files in the current folder.
Ctrl + N Opens a new File Explorer window.
Ctrl + W Closes the current File Explorer window.
Win + E Opens File Explorer from anywhere in Windows.
